As the ninth president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Charles Evans serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve System’s most important monetary policymaking body. Before becoming president, Evans was director of research and a senior vice president at the Chicago Fed. In that capacity he oversaw the Bank’s research in monetary policy, banking and financial markets, and regional economics.
In addition to his work at the Chicago Fed, he has taught at the University of Chicago and the University of Michigan. Prior to joining the Chicago Fed in 1991, he was an assistant professor of economics at the University of South Carolina.
Evans received a B.A. in economics from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in economics from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
