On Friday, August 25, Apple River State Bank held their grand opening for their second Wisconsin location in Darlington. The bank hosted a community shred event on-site, collected personal care items for the Lafayette County Food Pantry, and made several financial contributions to local groups such as the Darlington Schools and Food Pantry.
The building had been built in the 1980s when Citizens National Bank moved from their Main Street location to their own building, bringing along the vault door and safe deposit boxes from 1885 that were craned over to the new building from Main Street. When Citizens National Bank closed their doors in the 1990’s the building was left vacant and later occupied by another bank. Apple River State Bank bought the building in fall 2022, and have done a complete renovation of the first floor which also includes office space for lease, and a full second floor with potential for other tenants. They are paying homage to the history of the building and the City of Darlington with historic photos decorating all the walls, rooms, and hallways.
