The powerful Joint Committee on Finance continues its work this week making changes to Governor Scott Walker's proposed 2017-2019 State Budget. After passing the Department of Financial Institutions budget last week with no changes from what the governor recommended, this week focuses on local property taxes and the Department of Children and Families.

For WBA's purposes, we continue to garner support for a budget amendment in the Department of Revenue that would exempt from income tax all revenue generated from commercial and agricultural loans under $10 million. This could bring lower rates to small businesses and farmers in a rising rate environment, as well as provide long-awaited, albeit partial, parity between banks and credit unions.
