Mark E. Van Der Weide was appointed general counsel of the Federal Reserve Board, effective later this summer. Van Der Weide will succeed Scott G. Alvarez, who announced in February his intention to retire after nearly 36 years at the Fed.

Since 2010, Mr. Van Der Weide has held positions in the Board's Division of Supervision and Regulation, most recently as Deputy Director. In that role, he and his team advised the Division Director and Board Members on financial regulatory policy issues.
