A charter change means 1st National Bank is changing its name, too.

In early 2018, the Green Lake County-based bank will become Fortifi Bank.

In August, the bank began the process of switching from a national charter to a state charter, regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions in Madison instead of an arm of the U.S. Treasury Department.

The bank has been 1st National Bank for more than 140 years.

Changing charters is a lengthy process, and the bank expects to finish in the first quarter of 2018. The bank has been researching a new name since June and recently announced its decision to shareholders.
