Stop us if you've heard this before: the CFPB might be skewed towards one side of the aisle. Ever since its creation as a result of Dodd-Frank, bankers have had a... mixed relationship with the bureau. A new report might shed some light on why. While not always followed, for federal campaign contributions you generally need to provide who your employer is. Of the 594 donations listed in the database OpenSecrets, ONE person donated $1,000 to Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney in 2012. The other 593 went to a variety of Democrats with the most going to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama:

  • $46,611 to Hillary Rodham Clinton.
  • $13,190 to Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
  • $19,988 to President Obama.
  • $10,075 to Democratic campaign committees.
  • $1,129 to Sen. Bernie Sanders.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the agency during the Trump Administration. Just this week Mick Mulvaney took over as interim director of the bureau after a short legal fight with the deputy director. Mulvaney has frozen all new rules and hiring for 30 days until they can figure out what has been going on in the agency.
