Two major West Coast banking trade organizations became one on Monday.

The California Bankers Association and Western Independent Bankers completed a merger that's been in the works since last fall, coming together under the name Western Bankers Association. The new organization now serves more than 200 members throughout the 13 Western states.

The new WBA is preserving the name of the two former organizations: CBA and WIB are now divisions within the larger trade group.

The CBA division will focus on California state and federal regulatory advocacy activities. A representative for the organization said it will remain focused exclusively on state regulations in California because banks in the other states that it serves rely on their local trade organizations for action in their own legislatures. The WIB division will handle professional development services for the organization, including conferences, training services and webinars.
