A record number of attendees (137) from a record number of banks participating (52 banks) took part in the WBA BOLT Summer Leadership Summit on June 14-15 in Wisconsin Dells.
Providing of a mix of general session presentations, plenty of time for networking, and banking specific breakout sessions, the summit is one of two annual, statewide gatherings of the BOLT Section members each year. BOLT stands for Building Our Leaders of Tomorrow and is WBA's membership section focused on education, advocacy and networking for the next generation of bank leaders. Each statewide BOLT Summit is planned to bring together community bankers from around Wisconsin for a day and a half of education and networking.
Networking components are always amongst the highest rated sessions. Attendees were able to pick from various roles in community banking and meet via a roundtable discussion with their peers to discuss opportunities and challenges relevant to that particular role. WBA also coordinated a Speed Networking session, an organized way to coordinate movement of attendees from table to table in order to meet a whole new group of bankers for each round. Day one was capped off with a networking reception, paired with perfect summer weather and a few games of cornhole!
The closing session was presented by Steve Jones, head football coach at Kimberly High School. Through a series of stories and real-life examples, Jones shared how to intentionally create and grow a "winning" culture by developing leaders within your organization, really emphasizing the importance and power of connection, mindset, and servant leadership. Jones was also interviewed for a lead article in the June Wisconsin Banker, Culture by Design.
During the summit, the new members of the 2018-19 WBA BOLT Section Board were introduced, along with those bankers who have completed their service on the board and those who are staying on the board.
BOLT members are encourage to "Save the Date" for the BOLT Winter Leadership Summit, scheduled for November 7th in Stevens Point. Watch for more information coming soon!
