Markesan State Bank was proud to present a donation totaling $500.00 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Macy Zacharias. This money was raised during MSB’s employees’ May “Denim Day.”
Every month the bank's employees can choose to participate in the identified chosen not-for-profit cause. In exchange for wearing denim for the day an employee donates $5.00 for the privilege of wearing denim to work on a set day.
Cancer can affect all parts of the body, including the blood. Leukemia and lymphoma are two types of blood cancer. It is estimated that in 2016 in the United States, approximately 60,000 people were diagnosed with leukemia and 80,000 were diagnosed with lymphoma. Dixie Gaastra, vice president – Randolph Branch Manager, shared that, “This year leukemia and lymphoma have touched at least one customer in each of our bank’s community locations and was the motivation behind our staff choosing this cause for our May fundraiser.”
The bank promotes its monthly “Denim Day” not-for-profit fundraisers with signage and donation jars for gathering additional public donations in its Markesan, Randolph, and Waupun locations.
