In 2018 we have an insane amount of data at our fingertips when it comes to election information. The New York Times has put together one of the most detailed maps available on the 2016 election results. You can boil it down to the precinct level.

Want to know if you live in a “bubble”? This map will tell you how far you live from the nearest district that voted for the other person. For example, the precinct your author lives in (in downtown Madison) gave Hillary Clinton 87% of the vote and Donald Trump 5%. The nearest precinct that voted for Trump is a 23-minute drive away in DeForest, Wis.

You can really see in this map how we are self-selecting our political geography. Democrats have clustered themselves in urban areas while Republicans are now dominating outstate, rural areas.
