Over the last few years, Waukesha County has led the Milwaukee region’s resurgence in new home construction.

Accessibility along the Interstate 94 corridor, land availability, and it being a middle point between Milwaukee and Madison, the largest cities in the state, make the county a desirable location for housing.

In 2017, builders pulled 852 permits for single-family construction in Waukesha County, the second-largest amount for a county in Wisconsin behind Dane County. Halfway through 2018, 537 permits for single-family construction had been pulled in Waukesha County, only second to Dane County.

As of June, the average home sale price in Waukesha County is $309,000, nearly $100,000 more than the average price for the entire southeast Wisconsin region, according to the Wisconsin Association of Realtors. Meanwhile, the average cost of a new home falls between $350,000 and $500,00.
