Sales of existing homes in the Milwaukee metro area were flat through the first nine months of 2018, but average prices rose in all four counties.

A report by the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors Friday shows there were 16,425 closings on homes in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties through September, or 0.2 percent fewer than 16,464 during the same period in 2017.

September home sales declined 6 percent, to 1,714 from 1,823 a year earlier.

Average prices were boosted in part by a shortage of houses on the market. In Milwaukee County, the average price of homes sold in the first nine months of the year was $188,564, or 5.8 percent more than $178,254 in the same span in 2017.
