North Shore Bank wants to convert an apartment building into a "state-of-the-art, walkable" branch in an area where Milwaukee's downtown and east side meet.

The Brookfield-based bank is asking the city's Board of Zoning Appeals for a variance in order to build the branch at 510-516 E. Pleasant St.

North Shore Bank won't comment on the plan until after the zoning appeals board meeting, but in its request to city officials, the bank said the project will contribute to the recently built environment of the lower and upper Water Street districts of the Park East Corridor.
