Milwaukee startup investor Joe Kirgues, retired We Energies executive Thelma Sias and Hispanic leader Darryl Morin are among Gov. Tony Evers’ appointees to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. board.

The other Evers appointees scheduled to participate in their first board meeting Tuesday are Becca Cooke of Red’s Mercantile in Eau Claire, Bank of Kaukauna CEO John Brogan and Hank Newell, former CEO of Wausau Paper.

The Milwaukee Business Journal obtained the list of appointees from a source close to the Evers administration.

Also joining the WEDC board as nonvoting members are two Evers cabinet secretaries — Joel Brennan from the Department of Administration and former Assembly Rep. Peter Barca from the Department of Revenue.

Although Democrat Evers is appointing six members to the board, the organization will remain in Republican control until September under a bill approved by the Wisconsin Legislature and signed by then-Gov. Scott Walker in December 2018.
