WBA urged CFPB to forego adding more requirements to the overdraft rule in a comment letter to the agency. The rule currently prohibits institutions from imposing a fee on a consumer’s account for paying an ATM or one-time debit card overdraft transaction, unless the consumer opts-in to such fees. WBA expressed concern that implementing additional requirements would either cause: a reduction in the number of institutions offering overdraft programs, thereby reducing consumer choices and access to credit; or increase costs to institutions, which will then be passed along to consumers.
