WBA’s Scott Birrenkott represented the banking industry as a panelist during the recent UW – La Crosse Economic Indicators event. The panel focused on the hemp industry, was moderated by UW-La Crosse professor Taggert Brooks, and included Brian Kuhn, director of the Plant Industry Bureau of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection; and Abbie Testaberg, founder of Whole Plant Technologies. “The biggest risk is the unknown,” said Birrenkott. “Banks are required to do due diligence for every customer who comes to them, and they need to make sure that they’re not doing business with anyone engaged in illegal activity."
