As the Legislature nears the end of the session, more bills are moving quickly through the process of being introduced, heard, and passed. Here’s a quick look at where some of those pro-banking bills currently are.

AB 480 and AB 481 was just heard by the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety.  The bills address elder financial exploitation. Ken Thompson, President & CEO, Capitol Bank, and WBA’s Jon Turke testified in support of the bill.

The State Assembly passed three WBA-supported bills:

  •  WBA’s omnibus bill (SB 457) has been passed by the Assembly on a voice vote and is on to the Governor for his approval.
  •  SB 188 establishes the Wisconsin hemp program in accordance with the 2018 Farm Bill. It was passed unanimously and now goes to the governor for his signature.
  • AB 293 legalizes e-notary and remote notary in Wisconsin. The Senate still needs to pass this bill and will be back on the floor in January.

The State Senate also passed SB 368, money laundering penalties. It is currently on to the Senate.
