Port Washington State Bank Leads Financing for Transformational Meridian Development in Thiensville

Port Washington State Bank (PWSB) announced it is serving as the primary lender for The Meridian, one of the most significant residential and commercial projects in the Village of Thiensville in recent years.

PWSB is providing lead financing for the development, with participation from PyraMax Bank. In addition, the Village of Thiensville is further supporting the project through a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) incentive, while Ozaukee Economic Development and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) are also providing support, reflecting a strong public-private partnership focused on advancing local housing and economic vitality.

Located at 301 North Main Street in the heart of downtown Thiensville, The Meridian will feature an 80-unit multifamily apartment community along with approximately 5,000 square feet of premier ground-floor retail and commercial space. Designed to support a vibrant, walkable lifestyle, the development is expected to serve as a central gathering place for residents, businesses, and the broader community.

The name The Meridian reflects the project’s vision as a point of connection and alignment by bringing together modern living, local commerce, and the charm of Thiensville’s historic village center. With demand for quality housing at elevated levels across the region, the project arrives at a critical time to help meet the needs of current and future residents.

“This project represents exactly the kind of thoughtful, community-centered development that strengthens our local economy,” said James Schowalter, President and CEO of Port Washington State Bank. “With housing demand at historically high levels, The Meridian delivers much-needed residential options while also creating new opportunities for small businesses. We’re proud to be a financing partner in bringing this vision to life.”

The Meridian is being developed by The Heimat Group, a firm known for delivering and operating high-quality, community-integrated developments across Wisconsin.

“At a time when many communities are facing a shortage of attainable and well-located housing, The Meridian will open its doors to provide high-quality apartments and activated street-level commercial space. It will offer area residents diverse housing options to ensure they can continue to call this community home,” said Joe Lak II, Co-Founding Principal of The Heimat Group. “Our vision is to build more than just apartments; we’re creating a sense of place that reflects connection, authenticity, and community while enhancing the energy and walkability of downtown Thiensville.”

The development is expected to open in Q3 2027 and will contribute to long-term economic growth by expanding the Village’s housing supply, supporting local businesses, and strengthening the tax base.
