MADISON | Paul Kohler, president and CEO of Charter Bank, Eau Claire, has been elected to serve as the 2020-2021 chair of the Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA).

The Wisconsin Bankers Association is the state's largest financial industry trade association, representing nearly 235 commercial banks and savings institutions, their nearly 2,300 branch offices and 23,000 employees. 

Paul has over 32 years of banking experience in the Chippewa Valley. He was born and raised in Northern Wisconsin and is a graduate of UW-Eau Claire with a degree in Finance. For the past 24 years he has worked at Charter Bank. He was promoted to bank president in February of 2011 and then to CEO and president in 2013. He has a passion for banking and serving clients. Besides banking, he spends most of his free time with his wife and daughters and by serving the community. He was past board chair for the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce. He continues to serve on the Chamber's board of Directors. He currently sits on the Chippewa Valley Technical College Foundation Board of Directors and was the boards' past President. He has served on numerous boards including the United Way, The Chippewa Valley Boy Scout Council, Eau Claire Children's Museum, Junior Achievement, and the Community Table. One of his favorite fundraisers was the local Dancing with the Eau Claire Stars, a fundraiser for the Eau Claire Children's Theatre. Paul and his partner won first place and were also named fan favorites!

Also serving as officers on the WBA Board are: Chair-Elect Ken Thompson, president and CEO of Capitol Bank, Madison; Vice Chair Daniel Peterson, President/CEO of The Stephenson National Bank & Trust, Marinette; and Past Chair Mark Meloy, CEO of First Business Bank, Madison. 

Joining the board for three-year terms are: Jim Chatterton, president of National Exchange Bank & Trust, Fond du Lac; Paul Northway, president/CEO of American National Bank Fox Cities, Appleton; Jenny Provancher, president and chief financial officer of The Equitable Bank, S.S.B., Wauwatosa; and Teresa Rosengarten, president/chief operating officer of Unity Bank, Augusta. In addition, Joseph Peikert, president/CEO of Wolf River Community Bank, Hortonville, was selected to serve the one-year unexpired term left vacant by Peterson's selection as Vice Chair.

Those continuing their terms on the board are: Al Araque, executive director – market director banking, JPMorgan Chase Bank, New Berlin; Mark Erickson, regional president, MidWestOne Bank, Osceola; Donna Hoppenjan, president & CEO, Mound City Bank, Platteville; Jerry Jacobson, president, Northwestern Bank, Chippewa Falls; Timothy Kotnour, president & CEO, State Bank Financial, La Crosse; Thomas A. Reil, president, Waldo State Bank; and Mark Wierman, president, Ixonia Bank.
