SNBT Community Leadership Award Honors John Deschane

John Deschane (center) is the recipient of The Stephenson National Bank & Trust’s prestigious Community Leadership Award.

The Stephenson National Bank & Trust (SNBT) is proud to announce that John Deschane has been awarded the prestigious Community Leadership Award for his outstanding contributions to the Crivitz community. This award, now in its sixth year, is presented annually to a person, business, or nonprofit organization that exemplifies SNBT’s core value of community leadership.

“John Deschane’s dedication to the Crivitz community is truly remarkable,” said Greg Salmen, SNBT president and CEO. “From his work with the Crivitz-Stephenson Historical Museum to his long-standing service on the Crivitz Village Board, John has made a lasting impact on our community.”

For his work with the Crivitz-Stephenson Historical Museum, Deschane has been instrumental in moving and rebuilding the outbuildings on the museum grounds, including the Honeymoon cabin, Gateway cabin, Log Cabin, and most recently, the Karmen Barn. He has also played a key role in fundraising activities, such as the Winter Warmup events and staffing the museum booth at local craft sales. As a curator, greeter, and tour guide, Deschane has brought history to life for countless visitors.

In addition to his work with the museum, Deschane has served on the Crivitz Village Board for a total of 25 years, including 14 years as president, and has also served several terms as treasurer.

His contributions extend far beyond his museum and civic roles. He has been involved in numerous community projects, including the Bandshell Project, Operation Remember, and The Wall That Heals. He has also assisted with planning and volunteering at many community events, such as the Red, White, and Music Fest, Oktoberfest, and the Benefit for Mike. Deschane’s community involvement also includes serving as Memorial Day and Veterans Day speaker, a member of the local American Legion and VFW, and a former member of the volunteer fire department.

Deschane’s dedication to his church is equally commendable. As an elder, congregational assistant, and church council president at Grace Lutheran Church, he has played a vital role in the church community. He has also served on the WELS District Mission Board and Home Missions Board, mentored the newly established Anchor Church in Marquette, Michigan, and helped with church building renovations. Additionally, Deschane has taken on numerous other projects, including Boys Pioneer leader and Sunday School teacher.

“John’s extensive contributions across various community projects and his dedication to civic and church roles are a testament to his leadership and passion,” said Salmen. “We are honored to recognize his remarkable service with this well-deserved award.”

In recognition of his outstanding service, SNBT donated $500 to the Crivitz Stephenson Historical Society and presented Deschane with a commemorative award, which is a miniature replica of the sculpture “Eye of the Storm” created by local artist Rusty Wolfe and erected on the SNBT Marinette Campus.
