World Fest Features A Moving Sound – a Contemporary Flair From the Heart of Taiwanese Culture
The next concert in the World Fest Series features an award-winning ensemble from Taiwan by the name of A Moving Sound. They will perform a free community-wide concert on Saturday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m. at Bayshore Arts Center, formerly known as Theatre on the Bay.
A Moving Sound (Sheng Don聲動) has built a worldwide following through their joyous mix of original music and dance. According to its biography, the ensemble features the distinctive timbres of the erhu (Taiwanese fiddle) and zhong ruan (lute), and the transcendent vocals of Mia Hsieh. A Moving Sound has devised a unique and compelling style that is all their own – a Taiwanese whirlwind that veers between the meditative and the exuberant with irrepressible spirit.
Having performed and taught in twenty-three countries, A Moving Sound transports the listener to a timeless, location-less space with a gorgeous combination of cultural traditions, innovation, and artistic composition. The quartet has been featured on BBC Radio 3, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, and The Discovery Channel.
A program of Arts Midwest, World Fest connects Midwestern communities to international musicians to foster an understanding and appreciation of our global uniqueness and differences. The concert is free, but space is limited. Tickets are required for entrance. Concert doors open at 5:00 p.m. and seats are on a first come, first served basis. Please arrive early to guarantee a seat. People can pick up tickets at any office of The Stephenson National Bank & Trust (SNBT), Main Street Antique Mall, and Bayshore Arts Center formerly known as Theatre on the Bay.
During their visit in March, the members of A Moving Sound will provide workshops for students from surrounding schools. The musical collective has a well-developed outreach program for schools and communities that includes a Tai chi and dance workshop, as well as a lecture-demonstration on Taiwanese culture and music.
“As we conclude our three-year World Fest residency, I am profoundly grateful for the extraordinary talent that has graced our community,” said Kim Brooks, local event organizer. “The artists have not only shared their incredible skills through workshops at our grade schools but have also enriched our lives with unforgettable free concerts. The warm and enthusiastic reception from our community has been truly heartwarming, making this journey an exceptional experience for everyone.”
SNBT is the title sponsor among a generous group of businesses and individuals. SNBT has always been synonymous with supporting the communities in many ways, from encouraging staff volunteerism, to making charitable donations, and now the list also includes international music appreciation.
