The WBA Workshop: Numbers Talk & Bankers Need to Listen will start at 9 am and conclude at 3 pm on Monday, August 4, 2025.

This one day workshop will provide lending professionals with practical tools to understand business cash flow variables; including gross margins, ratios, and cash flow statement components.  Focusing on calculating and interpreting ratios and cash flow, the participants will understand what the borrower’s financial statements are saying.  This practical interactive seminar will include actual lending stories, allow participants to ask questions and interact with other bankers, as well as discuss solutions using real life cases.

As this is an intermediate level program, participants should have at least 3 years’ experience, or have  successfully taken introductory lending courses or foundational commercial  lending courses previously.

In this full day seminar, the following will be addressed:

  • Types of financial statements and quality of information
  • What truly comprises gross margin and what causes it to change
  • How to analyze any ratio and determine cause(s) of change
  • How to calculate and interpret key lending ratios: current, quick, working capital, accounts receivable days, inventory days, financial  and operating leverage
  • How to calculate traditional cash flow with adjustments for special circumstances
  • Global cash flows: models and mistakes
  • Uniform Cash Flow Analysis, including how to analyze in less than 5 minutes

Who Should Attend:
Commercial lending and risk management staff: lenders, credit analysts,  loan administration, and loan review personnel. As this is an intermediate level program, participants should have at least 3 years’ experience, or have  successfully taken introductory lending courses or foundational commercial  lending courses previously.

Registration Information:
The registration fee of $275 includes program registration and instruction, electronic materials delivered via email a few days prior to the workshop, a lunch buffet and refreshment breaks.

Refund Policy: A refund, less a $25 administrative fee, is provided for written cancellations received by WBA on or before July 28, 2025. All requests for cancellations or substitute registrations must be provided in writing to WBA Education.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

MIKE WEAR
President

Mike Wear is owner of 39 Acres Corporation, specializing in banker training and bank consulting services in credit risk underwriting and loan portfolio risk management.  Less lecture—real-life business cases—more hands-on practice… and more fun!

Over his 41-year banking career, he served in commercial lending and senior credit management positions with Omaha-area community banks.  Wear retired as a Senior Analyst in the Credit Risk Administration department of First National Bank of Omaha, a $26B regional community bank, specializing in underwriting large commercial real estate projects throughout the country.  In addition, he developed curriculum and conducted multi-tier training programs in credit analytics on an enterprise-wide basis.

He is the Loan Portfolio Management Section Leader and serves as a member of the faculty and board of trustees at the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, as well as GSB’s four Specialty Schools.  He is a former adjunct professor for the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He has authored articles for banking publications and has served as a textbook editor/reviewer for the American Bankers Association.

In his 30th year teaching over 8,000 bankers, Mike offers his advanced Commercial and CRE Lending workshops and teaches for several State Banking Associations.
