Help for the Homeless Hygiene Drive Kicked Off February 11
The 32nd annual Help for the Homeless Hygiene Drive is collecting products now through March 3. The Drive collects personal hygiene and cleaning products for over 100 Wisconsin crisis agencies in 19 communities across Wisconsin. All donations collected by Prevail Bank locations in Wausau, Marshfield, Medford, Owen, and Eau Claire will remain in or near the communities collected. Urgent needs include soft toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry soap, dish soap, garbage bags, floor cleaner, disinfectant cleaner, wet wipes, shampoo, soft soap, unscented deodorant, disposable razors, toilet tissue, paper towels, tampons, and maxi pads.
The Drive is coordinated by The Family Radio Network. It is a 501©3 nonprofit organization providing contemporary Christian music and programming, as well as community outreach support. It partners with area homeless and crisis agencies by inviting participating communities to donate hygiene and cleaning products. The goal of the drive is to supply a year’s worth of products to each participating agency. These products make it possible for the agencies to dedicate their limited financial resources to provide qualified personnel, education, counseling, safe housing, and nutritious food to those they serve. Hygiene and cleaning products are not covered by Wisconsin FoodShare program (food stamps/ SNAP).
According to one grateful recipient, these items were an important component to helping them feel like a human being. “Being homeless was never something I thought would happen to me and feeling clean became harder and harder. Being able to take a shower and have soap and shampoo helped me feel refreshed and ‘normal,’ at least for a little while.”
